Don’t overlook the impact large pots can make to your outside garden room. When choosing plants for pots remember these three words, thriller, filler and spiller.
The thriller is the “star” in your pot such as a tall Emerald Green arborvitae or purple fountain grass.
Fillers will surround the thriller and give texture, mass and color and can be several different plants such as begonias, coleus or pentas.
Finally, several spillers can be tucked into the edges of the pot to trail over the sides and soften the edges as they tumble toward the ground. Sweet potato vine is just one example of a spiller.
